Follow-up without pressure

Email · Emails and scripts Free Checked: October 2026

If they didn't reply: a follow-up that adds something useful instead of "just checking in," plus a short last email.

What it is

Two templates: a follow-up that gives the recipient something useful, and a last email that closes the topic and leaves the door open. A follow-up is usually sent 3–5 business days after the first email, and the last one about a week later. More than two follow-ups in a row tend to annoy more than they help.

FOLLOW-UP

SUBJECT: Re: [subject of your first email]

Hi [Name],

Following up on my email from [date] about [topic in 3–5 words]. I know inboxes are full, so I'll keep this short.

[Something new and useful, one of three: a link to a resource on their problem / a short observation about their situation / an answer to a question people in their field often ask.]

If now isn't the right time, that's fine. Let me know when would be better and I'll follow up then. If it's not a fit at all, just say so and I won't bother you again.

LAST EMAIL

SUBJECT: Closing the loop on [topic]

Hi [Name],

I don't want to clutter your inbox, so this is my last email about this. If the need comes up later, just reply to this message and we can pick up where we left off.

All the best,
[Your name]

HOW TO REFINE THIS WITH AI
Paste your first email and this template: "Here is my first email and a draft follow-up. The recipient is [who], and their problem is [problem]. Suggest 3 options for the new, useful point in the bracketed block, up to 80 words each. No pressure, and no phrases like 'just checking in' or 'circling back.' Don't make up anything about the recipient."
