New jobs of the AI era

AI governance specialist

New role

Makes sure a company uses AI within the law and under clear rules: an inventory of systems, risk assessment, documents, employee training. The role grew out of the work of lawyers, privacy specialists and compliance officers; AI helps them but doesn't replace licensed legal work.

What changes

  1. In the EU, the requirements of the AI Act are being phased in, other countries are writing their own rules, and someone has to track the changes.

  2. There are now standards for managing AI inside a company, such as ISO/IEC 42001 and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF).

  3. Data privacy now comes with new questions: transparency for customers, vetting AI vendors, labeling generated content.

AI drafts, the person decides

How the work splits here: AI prepares a draft, the person checks it and makes the call.

AI makes the draft

What AI does

  • Summarizes requirements from the official texts
  • Drafts policies, registers and vendor questionnaires
  • Compares internal documents against the requirements and flags gaps
  • Prepares training materials for employees
You check itRead it, check the facts, fix it. Without this check the draft goes nowhere.
You decide and stay responsible

What stays with the person

  • The legal assessment and signing off on the conclusions
  • Deciding which risks the company accepts and which it doesn't
  • Negotiations with management and vendors
  • Checking an AI draft against the current version of the law
