What it is

ChatGPT Images is image generation and editing built into ChatGPT, using the GPT Image models (in the API these are gpt-image-2 and gpt-image-2.5). DALL-E 2 and DALL-E 3 were shut off in the API on May 12, 2026. Version 2.0 (April 2026) renders text better, including text in non-Latin alphabets; version 2.5 (September 8, 2026) added sketching right in the chat, poster templates and edits based on comments placed on the image itself. The basic mode is available on the free plan, and Thinking mode on paid plans.
